Costs for commercial battery Storage (CBS) include everything from getting, installing and caring for sophisticated battery systems built on a mega-watt (million-watt) level and calculated for economic storage over many years. It is central to these systems that the electricity generated, for example by solar or wind power as shown in Figure 2, is available exactly when people want it. Technological features include cells that are much more energy dense than today's, advanced battery management systems and high levels of scalability to cater for differing power demands. Applications range from supplementing critical operations in commercial buildings to helping maintain the grid at peak periods. With energy expenditures facing higher stakes than ever before, companies that invest in such facilities generally find that they can lower costs significantly and pursue sustainability projects more effectively.
